The Tour Ride Cycle Show Sportive

This weekend the NEC hosted The Cycle Show and in partnership with The Tour of Britain the organisers included a brand new sportive. The Tour Ride Cycle Show Sportive featured two distances, a 96 km challenge ride and a 150 km pro ride. This morning I rode the 150 km pro ride and apart from the gusting winds I quite enjoyed it.

Tre Cime di Laveredo to feature on penultimate day of 2013 Giro

Giro d’Italia race organiser RCS Sport continue to tease us by releasing details of next year’s race ahead of their official announcement this coming Sunday, 30 September. On Wednesday they confirmed via their Twitter feed that the Tre Cime di Lavaredo mountain peaks in the Italian Dolomites will provide the back drop to the penultimate day of racing – and in all probability the final mountain stage – of the 2013 Giro d’Italia.

Official promo video for 2013 Giro d'Italia released

Although we’ve got to wait until Sunday before next year’s Giro d’Italia route is unveiled, race organiser RCS Sport whetted our appetites yesterday when they released a fantastic teaser video. It’s a bit dramatic and perhaps a bit over the top, but I liked it. Especially when it contains quotes like “This is Giro d’Italia, the toughest race in the world’s most beautiful place”.

Col du Galibier summit finish confirmed for 2013 Giro d'Italia

There’s still another 7 days to go until the 2013 Giro d’Italia route is announced however last Thursday it was revealed that stage 15 will feature a mountain top finish on the Col du Galibier. The Galibier is an iconic Alpine climb and while it has been used many times in the Tour de France, it has never been used in the Giro before.

Corsica accommodation booked in Porto-Vecchio, Bastia and Ajaccio

I don’t usually make plans too far ahead but yesterday I made an exception when I booked three hotels on Corsica. Next year is the 100th edition of the Tour de France and to mark this landmark event the island will host the Grand Départ. In fact the opening 3 stages are being hosted by the island before the race transfers to Nice on the mainland for stage 4 so it will be busy.

Here we go again ... 3 Grand Tours for Teenage Cancer Trust

It was about this time two months ago that Kay and I were in Paris. I was cycling up the Champs-Élysées to the Arc de Triomphe, to the conclusion of my solo Tour de France for Teenage Cancer Trust challenge. Kay was in the car following me. Today I find myself making plans to do it all over again in 2013, or more accurately, three times over.
